Psalm 15 – Who May Dwell with God?

O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent?

Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

He who walks blamelessly and does what is right

and speaks truth in his heart;

who does not slander with his tongue

and does no evil to his neighbour,

nor takes up a reproach against his friend;

in whose eyes a vile person is despised,

but who honours those who fear the LORD;

who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

who does not put out his money at interest

and does not take a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things shall never be moved. (Psalm 15)

Psalm 15 begins with two of the most important questions that any human being could ever ask:

“LORD, who shall sojourn in Your tent? Who shall dwell on Your holy hill?”

In other words, who can live in fellowship with God? Who is welcome in His presence? Who is qualified to stand before Him?

The rest of the psalm gives a picture—not merely of religious rituals, but of the kind of life and heart that reflects true nearness to God. It’s the life of someone who walks in integrity, who does what is right, who speaks truth from the heart, who keeps their word even when it costs them. Someone who refuses to exploit others, who honours what is good, and despises what is vile. A person of truth, character, reverence, and compassion.

It’s not about outward appearances—it’s about the condition of the heart.

In this psalm, David is painting a portrait of the kind of person who belongs in the presence of a holy God. It’s a high and sobering standard.

But if we’re honest, we quickly realise: this isn’t us. Not perfectly. Not consistently. Certainly not deeply enough.

We may long to live this way, but we all fall short.

So, what hope is there?

The answer, beautifully, is found in Scripture itself.

Psalm 15:1 asks, “Who shall dwell on Your holy hill?” And this same phrase—“holy hill”—appears earlier in the Psalter, in Psalm 2:6, where God says:

“As for Me, I have set My King on Zion, My holy hill.”

But this time, God is not asking the question. He is giving the answer.

He declares that He has set His King on His holy hill. And the New Testament makes it unmistakably clear: this King is Jesus Christ (see Hebrews 1:2; 5:5).

Jesus is the only One who truly fits the description of Psalm 15.

He walked blamelessly.

He always spoke truth from the heart in love.

He never slandered, never acted unjustly, never exploited.

He honoured those who feared God, He loved His enemies perfectly, and He Himself feared and loved the Lord perfectly.

He kept His promises—even when it cost Him His life.

He did not seek gain at the expense of others—He gave Himself for the sake of others.

So who may dwell with God?

Jesus.

But here is the wonder of grace: Jesus did not come just to dwell in God’s presence on His own. He came to bring us with Him.

He didn’t simply enter the temple—He became the true temple. As John 1:14 says,

“The Word became flesh and dwelt [literally: tabernacled] among us…”

Jesus came not just to visit us, but to restore us to God.

In Him, Eden begins to be restored. Heaven touches earth again. He brings the presence of God not into a building made with hands, but into a broken world and broken lives. And by His life, death, and resurrection, He opens the way for sinners—like you and me—to dwell in the presence of a holy God.

So what does Psalm 15 call us to?

It calls us to examine our hearts, yes—but also to look to Jesus; our only hope in life and death.

It calls us to be formed by the Spirit into people who long to reflect these qualities and enabled by His power to ever increasingly reflect these qualities and live this way —not as a way of earning God’s presence nor His love, but as a response to the One who earned it for us.

It is not the self-righteous who will stand before God, but those who come clothed in the righteousness of Christ, and by His Spirit begin to walk in the ways of Psalm 15—not perfectly, but sincerely.

“He who does these things shall never be moved.”

How?

Because our standing is in Christ—the unmovable One.

Let us then walk with humility, speak truth in love, honour what is good, reject what is vile, and be faithful even when it hurts.

Not to earn God’s presence, but because we already have it in Christ Jesus.

MABS Program – Two Weeks of Intensive Study

The first two weeks of August were a rich time of learning, fellowship, and spiritual sharpening as we held our modular Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (MABS) intensive. This program is designed specifically for those already serving in ministry or who have completed prior study—whether through the Fiji Bible College or elsewhere—and desire to go deeper in their understanding of God’s Word.

We were encouraged to have 23 students join us this term: 10 in person on campus, and 13 via Zoom from other parts of the Pacific and beyond. Some of the students are serving in full-time pastoral roles, while others are lay leaders, evangelists, or vocational workers committed to gospel ministry in their local churches and communities. It was deeply encouraging to see such hunger for the Word of God.

In Week 1, the students were blessed to sit under the teaching of Dr. Todd Stanton, who led our sessions on Hermeneutics—the principles and practice of rightly interpreting the Scriptures. His sessions helped lay a strong foundation, challenging the students to approach the Bible with reverence, clarity, and theological care. It was wonderful to have him back ministering the word with us and we look forward having him back, Lord willing, in the future.

In Week 2, Dr. Arthur Adams taught on Expository Homiletics—how to faithfully preach the Word of God in a way that is both biblically accurate and pastorally effective. The students were guided through the process of crafting sermons that flow from the meaning of the text, staying rooted in the authority of Scripture while speaking to the needs of real people.

We are truly thankful to the Lord for both Dr. Stanton and Dr. Adams, for their labour in the Word, and for the relational warmth and humility with which they taught. The sessions were not only theologically rich and quality academics but spiritually uplifting. Many students commented on how deeply the teaching stirred their own hearts, challenging them not only as ministers of the Word but as followers of Christ.

Please pray for each student who attended—that the truths they’ve studied would not just fill notebooks and minds, but be worked deep into their hearts. Pray that what they have learned would be lived out in their homes, churches, pulpits, and daily lives. And please pray for continued provision as we prepare for the next intensive, that we may continue offering these programs free of charge to those who long to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

University of Fiji – Youth Week Address

Earlier this month, the Lord opened an unexpected door for us to speak at the University of Fiji as part of their International Youth Day celebrations. We were invited to share with the English and literature faculty and student body, focusing on the value and purpose of young people in today’s world.

The heart of the message was this: every young person has immense value—not because of performance, popularity, or position, but because they were made in the image of God. We reminded them that their worth is not tied to what they can do, but to who made them. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 12:1, Genesis 1:27, and Galatians 2:20, we shared the biblical truth that humanity was created for relationship with God—but that we have, by nature, turned away from Him.

We spoke of the emptiness that results when we try to define life on our own terms—and the good news that Jesus Christ came to restore us to our Creator. Just as the prodigal son was welcomed home by the father, so too are we invited to turn from our sin and run to the only One who can bring us back to the life we were made for.

Please pray that those who heard this message—some for the very first time—would be stirred to seek the Lord while He may be found, and remember their Creator in the days of their youth. Pray that more such doors might open across universities and schools in the South Pacific.

Bible College Students Return from Break

Our residential students returned this month after their mid-semester break. They’re now entering the final leg of their academic year. Please continue to pray for them—not only for diligence in their assignments and exams but for deeper, daily communion with the Lord.

We long to see these young men shaped by the Word of God—men of prayer, men of truth, men of Christlike character. May their lives increasingly reflect the prayer Jesus taught us: “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” May it begin in each of us.

Labasa Missions Trip

Two of our AFC(SP) executive leaders recently led a missions team to Labasa, on the island of Vanua Levu. They partnered with Pastor Mike Ball, one of our missionaries, and Pastor Kamal, a graduate of the Bible College.

We give thanks for souls saved during the outreach—and for every heart that heard the gospel, even if it did not respond immediately. We are trusting the Lord of the harvest. Please pray for the ongoing discipleship and follow-up work by the local churches in that region.

Welcome Home – Premend, Ashwin, Abby… and Benji!

We’re delighted to share that Mr. Premend Choy, Mrs. Ashwin Choy and their daughter Abby will be returning to Fiji on September 7th. We thank the Lord for His gracious hand over their lives throughout their time away, and we are looking forward with great joy to welcoming them home.

Mr. Choy has been a beloved part of the AFC(SP) family for many years, serving faithfully in a number of capacities. He has been a great encouragement and blessing to many. We are so thankful to the Lord for preserving his life and are excited to see how the Lord will continue to use him and his family in the season ahead.

And after all this time away, there will no doubt be a very special reunion—not only with friends and loved ones, but with their loyal little dog, Benji, who has been waiting patiently for his family to come home! We’re sure it will be a joyful moment for them all.

Please pray for:

  • Safe and smooth travel as they return

  • A peaceful transition as they settle back into life and ministry in Fiji

  • Continued strength, joy, and direction from the Lord for this new chapter

Upcoming Visit – Justin Peters & Rodney Chand

We’re looking forward to welcoming Justin Peters and our dear brother Rodney Chand on September 30th. They will be ministering the Word among us. Please pray for their preparation, their travel, and for a great work of God in the hearts of all who will hear the truth proclaimed.

Adarsh’s Eye Surgery – September 10th

Please continue to pray for Adarsh, a young man from Labasa, who is scheduled to have eye surgery on September 10th. We thank God for those who contributed to make this operation possible. Please pray for:

• The surgeon and medical team

• A smooth and full recovery

• Comfort and peace for his family

• Opportunities for gospel conversations with those around them

Trusting God in a Time of Financial Drought

As we write this prayer letter, we are still awaiting news about support for the current month. We continue to look to the Lord to provide for His work here in Fiji and across the South Pacific, but the reality is that we remain in a difficult season of financial drought.

Last month, our fellowship partners at AFC.USI informed us that no support was received for the month of July, leaving us with no available funds to meet ongoing operational needs. This has placed considerable strain on every area of the ministry.

And yet—by God’s mercy alone—the work continues. Not by our resources, not by our strength, but by His sustaining grace.

We humbly ask that you would make this a matter of urgent prayer. Pray that the Lord would stir the hearts of His people, and that He would provide in His perfect way and timing. We trust that the One who began this work is able to carry it forward.

Please pray with us as we seek the Lord in this season. We are asking for provision, yes—but more than that, for hearts that trust Him fully and learn what He is teaching us through this time. May all glory belong to Him alone.

BarnabasAid Food Distribution

We are deeply thankful to the Lord for the upcoming shipment of 17.5 tons of dry food generously donated by BarnabasAid International. This practical gift is an answer to many prayers and comes at a time when food insecurity continues to affect vulnerable communities across Fiji.

Our prayer is that this distribution would be more than just an act of charity—that it would be a door through which the love of Christ is not only seen, but heard. As we extend food to meet physical hunger, we long to point people to Jesus, the Bread of Life, who alone can satisfy the deepest hunger of the human heart.

Please join us in praying for several key areas:

• That God would open the right doors to reach communities where the need is greatest, and that those we serve would be open to hearing the message of Christ.

• For favour and smooth processing at the Fiji Port Authority, where customs clearance can often be slow and complicated. Please pray that there would be no unnecessary delays or obstacles in the release of the container.

• For Mr. Ashley Saunders, the National Director of BarnabasAid Australia, and another team member from New Zealand who, God willing, will be coming to assist us with the distribution. Please pray for safe travel, health, and effectiveness as they work alongside us.

We know that food can fill a stomach, but only Christ can fill the soul. Please continue to keep this entire project in prayer—that in every parcel handed out, hearts would be opened not just to receive rice and lentils, but to receive the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Poasi Nui and Family

Please continue to lift up Dr. Poasi Nui, our acting principal at Fiji Bible College, along with his wife Mere and their daughter Helen. Helen suffered a hypoxic-ischemic brain injury in 2014 due to medical error and was later diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy. Since that time, she has been left in a vegetative state and suffers from ongoing neurological issues, including eye-blinking episodes that may indicate seizure activity.

The Nui family love their daughter deeply, but this has placed an enormous emotional and practical strain on them. Medical resources in Fiji are limited. We are praying for the Lord to open doors—for medical advice, for equipment that could assist in moving and caring for Helen, and for comfort and strength. Please remember Helen, Poasi, Mere, and the whole family in your prayers.

Shalen Chand – Doctor of Ministry Studies

Please also remember Shalen Chand in your prayers. Shalen is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Ministry while serving faithfully in multiple roles:

• Lecturer of Hermeneutics and Homiletics

• Assistant Executive Director of Properties (under John Ravind)

• Quiet, consistent servant of the Lord in ways that are often unseen but always impactful

Shalen is a model of Christlike humility and leadership. We thank God for him and ask that you pray for grace, stamina, and wisdom as he balances ministry and study. Shalen is married to Ranejita and they have one six year old son, Mikhael.

AFC(SP) Graduation – November 8th

Please pray for our upcoming AFC(SP) Graduation on November 8th. It is a significant day to celebrate God’s faithfulness in the lives of our students. Pray for the preparation, logistics, travel, finances and that Christ would be honoured above all.

John Ridley Lectures – First Week of November

From Monday to Friday, the first week of November, we will be holding our annual John Ridley Lectures each evening. We are blessed to have Dan Rudman, Director of AFC International (US), and his wife Tina joining us for this special week. Please pray for Dan as he prepares to bring God’s Word, and that the Lord would use this time to refresh, challenge, and strengthen His people.

Renovation Work – Kindergarten & Johnson Road Campus

We give thanks to the Lord for the ongoing renovation work at two of our key ministry sites: the AFC(SP) Kindergarten in Lautoka and the Johnson Road campus, home to the Ambassadors Institute of Vocational Training (AIVT). Though very different in purpose, both serve as vital spaces where lives are being shaped, children are cared for, and the gospel is made known.

At the Kindergarten, which serves to bring Christ and his message of salvation to children many of whom are from low-income families, we have been doing our best to complete as much renovation work as possible without purchasing new equipment, making use of the resources we already have. By God’s grace, the overall renovation is now approximately 80% complete.

Some of the key improvements still needed include:

  • Upgraded fencing, to ensure the safety of the children and prevent people from entering the premises to engage in unsafe behaviour

  • The installation of a children’s bathroom with a shower, helping us better care for children when accidents occur or hygiene is needed

  • Long-term plans to replace the steel playground equipment, which becomes dangerously hot under the sun, with safe and weather-appropriate alternatives

Please pray that the Lord would continue to provide the people, resources, and strength needed to complete this work—and that the Kindergarten would remain a place of joy, safety, and gospel witness to both the children and their families.

Meanwhile, at the Johnson Road campus, we are continuing renovations in phases due to the extent of termite damage and the need for lasting structural solutions. Though the timber used was originally treated, the roofing structure and frame have suffered significant deterioration. At present, the roof has not yet been replaced, and remains one of our most urgent needs. Our plan is to rebuild it using aluminium C-channel and steel square tubing, which will provide long-term durability and resistance to future termite issues.

In addition to the roofing, both the student kitchen and administration office/library are approximately 40% complete. Major work is still required, including:

  • Full electrical wiring and lighting installations

  • Plumbing, cabinetry, and bench installation in the kitchen

  • Shelving, desks, chairs, and other furnishings for the office and library

Please continue to pray for:

  • God’s provision—for materials, skilled hands, and the funding needed to carry the work through

  • Safety and wisdom as we move forward with each phase

  • That the Lord would use these spaces—whether a classroom or a kitchen, a children’s play area or a study library—for His glory and the good of all who walk through their doors

We are so grateful to each of you who prays. May these facilities continue to serve as tools in the Redeemer’s hands—to teach, disciple, and care for young lives across the South Pacific.

Need for Gospel Retreat Centre Caretaker

Please continue to pray with us for the provision of a caretaker for the Gospel Retreat Centre—a beautiful facility that the Lord has entrusted to us for the purpose of Evangelistic camps, rest, retreat, teaching, and discipleship. Over the years, this centre has been used to host youth camps, pastors’ conferences, women’s and men’s retreats, student gatherings, and times of personal refreshment for those in ministry. It has been a place where many have drawn closer to the Lord through His Word and through fellowship with His people.

The need for a faithful and dedicated caretaker is now pressing. This is not just a job—it is a ministry role, and we are seeking someone with a heart to serve quietly and consistently behind the scenes. The work includes maintaining the grounds, caring for the buildings, welcoming guests, and stewarding the property well for the glory of God.

We are asking the Lord to raise up His appointed person, in His perfect time—someone who sees this not as a stepping stone or a side task, but as an act of worship. Faithful, Spirit-filled, humble, and dependable.

If you or someone you know has a burden to serve the Lord in practical ways, and you believe God may be leading in this direction, we ask that you make it a matter of prayer. Please also feel free to reach out if you sense the Lord stirring something in your heart.

Above all, please pray that the Lord would go before us and prepare the heart of the one He is calling. We trust Him to provide, just as He always has.

Thank you for reading, for praying, and for being a vital part of this work. Your partnership in the gospel is not forgotten. You are a gift from God to us. Please let us know If there is anything we can be praying for you. We continue to pray for you all each morning during our morning devotions,.

May we continue pressing on—faithful in the little, joyful in the work, and hopeful in the promises of our great God.

On behalf of Dr. Nair, Mrs. Nair and the AFC(SP) Ministry Team,

In Christ’s love,

Nathan Adams
