This month I thought it would be helpful to meditate on Psalm 27.

David wrote this psalm during a time when fear surrounded him. Enemies were near, danger was real, and anxiety pressed heavily on his heart. He speaks honestly — David knew what it felt like to wake up each morning with worry and uncertainty. Life can often feel that way for us too.

Yet in the middle of fear, David reminds himself of something greater: “The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?” (v. 1) - “When the wicked advance against me… my heart shall not fear” (vv. 2–3). When the Lord is your light, we need not fear darkness. When He is our salvation, we need not live in dread of the future. However, if truth be told we often do live in dread and fear. Even if every earthly support fails — even if, as David says, “my father and mother forsake me” (v. 10) — the Lord Himself will hold us close. God never abandons His children. His presence is not just a comfort in our fear; it is the reason we can walk through life with peace.

And notice what David desired above all else:

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” (v. 4)

David’s deepest longing was not for safety, or comfort, or success — it was to be near God and to see His beauty. The beauty of the Lord is the shining perfection of His character — His love, His holiness, His mercy, His truth. It is the glory of who God is for those who trust in Him. We see this beauty most clearly in Jesus Christ. He is the perfect picture of God’s glory and goodness. When we look at Jesus — at His kindness toward sinners, His patience with the weak, His forgiveness at the cross — we see the beauty of the Lord that David longed to behold.

The great preacher Jonathan Edwards once wrote:

“Christ has infinite loveliness to win and draw our love. He is more excellent than the angels of heaven. . . . In beholding his beauty, the angels do day and night entertain and feast their souls and in celebrating of it do they continually employ their praises. Nor yet have the songs of angels ever declared all the excellency of Jesus Christ, for it is beyond their songs and beyond the thoughts of those bright intelligences to reach it.”

Our hearts were made to be filled with beauty, and that beauty is found only in Christ. We look for it in many other things — in success, relationships, or possessions — but none of them satisfy. Only Jesus can. So, when fears press in, when the day ahead seems uncertain, come back to this psalm. Let your heart rest in these words: “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Seek His face in Scripture. Talk to Him in prayer. Trust Him with what troubles you. And let your soul be satisfied in His beauty.

He is not only our light in the darkness — He is the deepest longing and joy of our hearts. May the Lord enable us to seek Him, and find our all in Him.

Titus Nair

Dr. Nair’s son, Titus, remains in a critical condition. After three weeks in hospital, the medical team released him, saying they could do nothing further. He was discharged with grim and sombre outlooks, yet we continue to seek the Lord during this difficult and uncertain time. In His mercy, the Lord has provided a qualified carer—someone we have worked with through the Operation Christmas Child ministry. It is a beautiful providence that this carer had previously served alongside our Ministry Director of Evangelism and Church Planting, and Bible College Administrator, Sidweshwar Kumar, who also serves as the International Field Representative for Samaritan’s Purse. We are reminded once again that nothing happens by accident, and the Lord is kind in all His ways. Please continue to pray earnestly for Titus, for Dr. Nair and Mrs. Nair, for Titus’s children—David, Dale, and Viv—and for the entire Nair family as they walk through this valley.

Student Exams

Both our resident and online students at the Bible College, as well as the Vocational School, have now completed their exams, and marking is underway. Please pray that their studies this year would not merely remain intellectual but would deepen their love and devotion to the Lord. It’s all too easy for knowledge to remain in the head without reaching the heart—or the hands. But knowledge that does not result in a life of worship and obedience is fruitless. As James says, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). True, saving faith - lives. It breathes. It moves, it loves. It applies what is known and transforms it into a life lived for the glory of Christ. May these students be moved to worship, equipped to serve, and zealous to proclaim the One who brought them out of darkness into His marvellous light.

Premend and Ashwin Choy

Our dear brother and sister, Premend, Ashwin, and their daughter Abby, have returned to America. Ashwin has been part of the ministry since the late ’80s and early ’90s, and Premend since 1995. Over these decades, the Lord has used them in such meaningful ways—from serving as secretaries, accountants, lecturers, assistant principal, and finally, principal. On a personal note, I will deeply miss the Choy’s. I honestly can’t remember a time at AFC(SP) without them. I’ve always known him as “Uncle Premend” and her as “Ashwin Mosi,” even before they were married.

Uncle Premend first came to the college as an 18-year-old. My mother was pregnant with me at the time and needed someone to help relieve her in the final weeks. Uncle Premend had recently come to faith and, in God’s providence, agreed to come serve. My father took him under his wing along with Anand Singh, Richard Krishna, Kamal Nadan, John Ravin, and Ganesh Deo. Every week they would come for Bible study in my parents’ home. It was through that time that John Ravin came to faith and the Lord began to deepen their love for Him and His Word.

After my parents returned to Australia, Dr. Nair continued discipling them and encouraged further theological training. This eventually led to Uncle Premend attending The Master’s Seminary in the U.S., where he completed his M.Div and Th.M. Though he was away for many years, we were never distant in heart. By God’s grace, he returned to serve for over a decade. When he left, I told him something from the heart: many of my earliest and most formative memories are intertwined with their family’s presence on the Buabua campus. I will miss them immensely. He carries the imprint of both my father and my grandfather—and I’ll feel his absence deeply. Please pray for their transition, especially for Abby as she adjusts to life in America. They weren’t able to take their family dog, Benji, which will be an especially hard loss for her.

BarnabasAid Food Distribution

Please pray for the BarnabasAid food distribution which took place at the end of the month. BarnabasAid kindly donated 17.5 tons of dry food for families in need. We were honoured to host their Australian CEO, Ashley Saunders, and Anna from the Australian and New Zealand media team. Of course, we are deeply grateful to be able to meet physical needs—but our ultimate goal is to share the hope and love of Christ through this ministry.

We’re reminded that even during the time of Jesus, many came for the bread but did not believe upon Him. And while we know this may happen again, we pray that each recipient of food would encounter the Bread of Life—Jesus Himself. We were able to distribute 1,500 parcels of food, each with 5kg rice, 2kg lentils, 2kg split peas, and 1kg chickpeas. But the most exciting part is this: we were able to share the gospel with over 3,000 people in just five days!

Each parcel also included:

• A letter explaining why we were doing this

• A recipe sheet

• A gospel tract

• And a children’s story I wrote, based on the little boy who shared his lunch with Jesus.

This food will provide over 120,000 meals. Please pray for each home that received a parcel, and for the churches who will continue to water the seed that has been planted.

Optometrist Visa and Medical Licensing

We thank the Lord that the visa for Sarath, the optometrist from India, has finally been approved! We have faced many challenges with staff visas over the past year, and the journey to bring this optometrist to Fiji has taken nearly twelve months. There were countless setbacks—despite submitting all the necessary documents—and for many months, we faced roadblock after roadblock. In the kindness and grace of our God, the Lord granted us favour with Immigration. We’ve been praying for an optometrist since March, and the Lord has once again gone before us. There are still steps that need to be taken to finish this process, but we have been informed the rest of that can be done in Fiji.

Please continue to pray for the next step: the approval of Sarath’s local medical license so that he can begin work with Christian Helps. We are praying that the Lord would grant us favour with the relevant There are many in Fiji who desperately need eye care but cannot access or afford it. Through this ministry, we hope not only to meet physical needs, but to share the love of Christ—our true Healer—with every patient who walks through the door. In the past we have had many roadblocks in this area - please do pray for us as we seek the Lord's guidance and help.

Upcoming Events: John Ridley Memorial Lectures & 51st AFC(SP) Graduation

Please also be in prayer for our upcoming John Ridley Memorial Lectures, to be held at the Lautoka Wesley Methodist Chapel. This year, we are privileged to have Dan Rudman, the National Director of AFCI.USA, bringing the Word. Please pray for him, for his preparation, and for those who will attend.

And finally, please pray for our 51st AFC(SP) Graduation, which will take place on November 8th at the Gospel Retreat Centre. We praise God for each student completing their studies. It’s a celebration not just of academic achievement—but of God’s grace at work. Our hope is that each graduate would leave with a lifelong love for God’s Word. That they would offer heartfelt devotion to Him and to the proclamation of the Oracles of God—not just for exams or assignments, but for the beauty and worth of our Saviour. That their souls would thirst for Him, and their lives would bear fruit in keeping with repentance. May they go out into the world pointing others to Christ, helping one another as fellow pilgrims on the journey home.

We continue to look to the Lord for our needs. He has graciously provided for us year after year, and we are reminded each month that our hope and help are found in Him alone. We humbly ask you to join us in prayer and if you can share this prayer letter to those who might also be able to pray for us — that God would supply what is needed to equip students, serve the poor and point them to Jesus, and proclaim Christ throughout the South Pacific until He comes.
