What would the Christian life be if its end was not the Lord? It would be an empty, creature pursuing endeavour.
Suffering has a way of stripping things back and helping us see more clearly. When life is comfortable, we are so easily tempted to live as though this world is our home. We know in our theology that it is not, but practically we often settle down here. We fill our lives with noise, distraction, entertainment, comfort, and temporary pleasures, and before long the longing for eternity grows quiet in our hearts.
But suffering has a way of waking us up. In pain, we are reminded that this life is not all there is, nor is it all our hearts truly desire. We live in broken bodies, in a fallen world scarred by sin. We battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil. Even our minds and bodies bear the marks of the fall. And in those moments of grief, weakness, disappointment, or fear, something deep within us begins to ache for restoration. We begin to long for home.
When relationships fracture, we long for perfect reconciliation. When there is division among God’s people, we long for the day when all the redeemed will stand together in complete unity before the throne of Christ. When we see violence, abuse, hatred, injustice, and the terrible darkness of sin in this world, we long for the kingdom where righteousness dwells. When we grow weary of our own failures and ongoing battles with sin, we long for the day when we will finally be free from temptation altogether. When sickness, pain, anxiety, weakness, and death touch our lives, we long for resurrection bodies and renewed minds untouched by the curse.
But above all else, we long for Jesus.
Every sorrow in this life can become a reminder that we were made for more than this present world. Every grief can stir our hearts to look forward to the day when faith becomes sight and we behold Christ in the fullness of His glory. The deepest longing of the Christian is not merely relief from pain, but to be with the Lord Himself.
So we should never think that longing for heaven is some morbid or unhealthy thing. Paul could say, “For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Death is gain for the believer because it brings us to the One our souls were made for. Yet while the Lord leaves us here, we continue on in hope. We walk this road through both blessing and affliction, through joy and sorrow, until at last we stand face-to-face with our Redeemer.
And on that day, every blemish will be removed. Every tear will be wiped away. Every wound of sin and suffering will finally be healed. We will see Him clearly, and our restless hearts will finally be home.
Until then, we groan.
Until then, we long.
Until then, we hope.
For what would the Christian life be if it did not end with Christ Himself? It would be empty — merely another creature-centred pursuit under the sun. But the end of our faith is not simply escape from suffering; it is the Lord Himself. He is our joy, our treasure, our everlasting hope.
“To those who love You for Your own sake, whose joy You Yourself are — this is the happy life: to rejoice in You, because of You, and for You. This is it, and there is no other. O soul, look unto the Lord of mercy, for He alone is our ever-present Father and Friend.”
As many of you know, these have been challenging days for our ministry team in a number of ways. Yet we are reminded again and again that our God is sovereign and faithful. Even through difficulties, disappointments, and uncertainties, He continues to accomplish His purposes. He is building His Church, strengthening His people, raising up workers for the harvest, and bringing men and women from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His beloved Son.
The Lord has not ceased working. Indeed, some of the clearest evidences of His grace are often seen in the midst of trials - and that has been true for us at this difficult time - He has been working not only in our midst but also within us to bring us closer to Himself. We continue to see lives transformed by the Gospel, pastors trained for ministry, churches strengthened, and opportunities opening for the proclamation of Christ throughout the South Pacific. Through it all, God is bringing glory to His name and advancing His Kingdom.
Youth Camp
We were greatly encouraged to have approximately 80 young people join us for this year's Youth Camp. We praise God that during the camp the Lord graciously saved 10 young people, bringing them from death to life through faith in Christ. We rejoice that He is still building His Church and drawing sinners to Himself.
Dr. Narayan Nair took the lectures for the camp - the theme of the camp focused on the call to follow Christ wholeheartedly. Throughout the week, we looked at what it means to know God, to understand the gospel, and to live as disciples of Jesus in a world that is increasingly hostile to Him. We studied the reality that God created us for Himself, that sin has separated us from Him, and that Jesus Christ is the only Saviour who can reconcile us to God through His life, death, and resurrection. We also considered the cost of discipleship, the importance of God's Word, prayer, fellowship with God's people, and the necessity of relying upon the Holy Spirit in the Christian life. I was privileged to preach to the group of young people on the Sunday as we held a worship service - the sermon was looking at the account of the Rich Young Ruler. We praise God for those who He saved and we also pray for those who heard the good news of Jesus. We know that God's word never returns void to Him, so we entrust it to His wise and perfect hands.
Please pray especially for these new believers as they begin what we pray will be a lifelong walk with Jesus Christ. Pray that the Word of Christ would dwell richly in them, that they would grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and that they would become men and women of God who fear Him, love Him, and seek to honour Him in every area of life. Please also pray for those who heard the gospel but did not yet respond, that the seed planted would continue to bear fruit in God's perfect timing.
Students' Study Weeks, Exams, and Semester Break
Our Bible College and Vocational School students have now entered their study week in preparation for their Semester One examinations. Please continue to uphold them in prayer as they complete final assignments, prepare for exams, and finish the semester.
Our prayer is not merely that they would pass their assessments, but that through their studies they would come to know and love the Lord more deeply. Knowledge alone can puff up, but true knowledge of God should humble us, lead us to worship, and move us to greater devotion and service. Please pray that what they have learned would not remain merely in their minds but would take root in their hearts and be evident in the way they live and minister to others.
Annual Pastors' Conference – June 1–5
Please pray for our upcoming Annual Pastors' Conference, which will be held from June 1–5 in Lautoka. This year Dr. T.V. Thomas, Dr. Keith Stevenson, Ashley Saunders, and Dr. Narayan Nair will be speaking on the important theme of Biblical Leadership.
This conference is particularly significant because it marks the first time in approximately thirty years that the conference has been held in Lautoka. In recent years we have faced increasing challenges in securing suitable venues, yet we are thankful that the Lord has once again provided.
We are praying that approximately 200 pastors, church leaders, and gospel workers will attend. Many of these men and women have little or no access to formal theological training, making opportunities like this especially valuable.
Please also pray regarding the mini-library that we hope to provide to qualifying attendees who participate in at least four of the five conference days. Our desire is to place sound biblical resources into the hands of faithful servants who can then use them to strengthen local churches throughout the Pacific.
As always, the conference is offered entirely free of charge. We never want finances to become a barrier to biblical training and equipping. We are deeply thankful for the Lord's provision and for those whom He uses to make these opportunities possible.
Bible and Basketball Outreach
Please pray for a family from America who will be joining us to conduct a Bible and Basketball outreach program. We are excited about this opportunity to combine practical skill development, friendship, and gospel ministry.
On June 6th, we will be holding a special Kids Fun Day at the Gospel Retreat Centre. The day will include basketball activities, games, friendship, and Bible teaching. We are expecting between 50–65 children, ranging in age from 7–14 years old, with many coming from non-Christian homes.
Our greatest desire is not simply that the children would enjoy themselves, but that the seed of God's Word would be planted in their hearts. We pray that they would come to know their Creator in the days of their youth and that the Lord would draw many of them to Himself.
Please pray for the Thomas family, for the overseas volunteers, and for our local ministry team as we serve together during this outreach.
Evangelism, Missions, and Diaspora Missions Training
While Dr. T.V. Thomas is with us in June, he will also be conducting several sessions on Evangelism, Missions, and Diaspora Missions.
These subjects are increasingly important as populations continue to move around the world and new opportunities for gospel ministry emerge. Please pray that these sessions would challenge and equip those attending to think biblically about the Great Commission and the responsibility of the Church to take the gospel to all peoples.
Global Diaspora Network & Lausanne Movement Consultation
Please also pray for the upcoming Global Diaspora Network and Lausanne Movement Consultation, which will be held from October 19–23 in partnership with the Bible College.
The Lausanne Movement, founded through the ministries of Dr. Billy Graham and Dr. John Stott, has long sought to encourage the Church to remain outward-looking and mission-focused. The Global Diaspora Network serves under the Lausanne Movement and seeks to mobilise followers of Jesus to fulfil God's purposes among people on the move.
Their vision is summed up well in the Lausanne statement:
"Together we seek to bear witness to Jesus Christ and all His teachings, in every part of the world—not only geographically, but in every sphere of society and in the realm of ideas."
Speakers from across Oceania and beyond will gather to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities presented by diaspora communities throughout the Pacific region.
We are grateful that two members of the AFC(SP) team will be presenting papers at the conference: Dr. Narayan Nair and Mr. Faga Foraete, Academic Dean of the College.
Please pray for them as they prepare. Our desire is that everything presented would not merely be theoretical academic discussion, but would genuinely strengthen the Church and assist God's people in reaching those who have yet to hear the gospel.

A New Avenue for Tax-Deductible Giving in the United States
Many of you have been praying with us regarding a new avenue for tax-deductible giving in the United States. We are thankful to report that the Lord has answered those prayers.
After many months of applications, refusals, setbacks, and closed doors, the Lord has graciously provided a way forward.
We have recently been approved by Central Missionary Clearinghouse (CMC), and both AFC(SP) and Dr. Narayan Nair have been accepted into their program. This means that our American supporters can once again make tax-deductible contributions through a recognised 501(c)(3) organisation.
We praise God for His faithfulness. There were many times when it seemed as though every door had closed, but once again the Lord reminded us that this ministry belongs to Him. He is able to provide for His work in ways that we could never orchestrate ourselves.
We are especially thankful that CMC operates with very low processing costs. Rather than taking a percentage of donations, they charge a flat fee of only $3.50 per donation regardless of the amount given. This allows more of each gift to reach ministry work here in the South Pacific.
Through God's provision and the generosity of His people, these funds help support:
- Bible College training
- Church planting and evangelism
- Christian Helps humanitarian outreach
- The School of Evangelism
- Vocational training programs
- Children's ministries
- Gospel outreach throughout the Pacific Islands
Thank you for praying with us throughout this process. We know many of you have faithfully brought this matter before the Lord, and we rejoice together in His answer.
We have included CMC's introductory information and contact details below. If you have questions regarding donations, receipts, or the giving process, the staff at CMC would be happy to assist you directly.
"Central Missionary Clearinghouse (CMC) This is their website- https://cmcmissions.org/donate
We are pleased to let you know that your CMC Application has been approved. We have attached the CMC Donor Form so that you may begin sending your donations through CMC whenever you wish. We are looking forward to serving you.
The attached CMC Donor Forms are for one-time use only. This helps us get your donor’s information into our computer correctly.
After your donor sends in their first gift, we will send them a receipt and a self-addressed envelope. The receipt is two-part, and they should tear off the bottom portion and send it back with any future donation. The top portion is their tax-deductible receipt. If they are giving online through CMC “Click & Give” or through their bank, then they will not need to send in the bottom portion of their receipt. Should they want an annual receipt, they must call us or send a note with their last gift of the year to let us know.
The IRS law does not allow individuals to designate funds – only a 501 (c) 3 like CMC may do so. This is another good reason to use the form for the first gift only. After the first gift, we will have their account set up and we will know that they support you. Checks should be made payable to Central Missionary Clearinghouse or C.M.C.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 800-262-7729 or 281-599-7411."
Please also pray for the Masters conference that will be conducted from August 3-14. This year we have Mr. Barry Frew and Dr. Arthur Adams (the dean of the program)
Finally, please continue praying for the ongoing financial needs of the ministry. At present, we have just over one month of support remaining. Humanly speaking, these things can appear overwhelming at times, yet we are continually reminded that this ministry belongs to the Lord and that He remains faithful. We continue looking to Him to provide and to open new conduit avenues through which support from America and Canada can be channelled to the ministry here in Fiji. This remains a pressing need, and we humbly ask you to continue standing with us in prayer as we entrust these matters into the hands of our faithful God.
Thank you once again for your faithful prayers, encouragement, and partnership in the gospel. We are grateful to the Lord for each of you.
On behalf of Dr. Nair, Mrs. Nair and the whole AFC(SP) Team

In Christ’s love,
Nathan Adams
