But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22–23

When Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit, he is describing the character of Christ reproduced in His people. These are not virtues we achieve by effort or by our works but the gracious work of the Holy Spirit, conforming us to our Saviour over time. One of these fruits is gentleness. It is often misunderstood. The world equates it with weakness or lack of conviction, but Scripture presents something deeper and far more compelling. Biblical gentleness is strength under control—power restrained for the good of others. It opposes self-assertion and self-promotion. The gentle person is no longer preoccupied with defending his importance because his life is centred on Christ and secure in Him.

Is this not what we see in our Lord Jesus? Only once in the Gospels does He describe His own heart: “I am gentle and lowly in heart” (Matt. 11:29). How remarkable that the eternal Son of God speaks this way. The One who spoke galaxies into being is gentle. The One before whom demons tremble is gentle to all who fear Him. The One who will judge the living and the dead is gentle to His own. His gentleness is breathtaking; He entered our weakness without sin. He has all authority in heaven and on earth, yet never abuses His power. He receives weary sinners, binds broken hearts, carries weak sheep, and restores those who fail Him - This is who He is toward His own sheep. His all powerfulness is clothed in tenderness, and His authority is expressed in mercy.

We often forget this. Many believers know Jesus forgives them yet wonder if He has grown weary of them. We imagine Him reluctant after repeated sin and failures. But His heart has not changed. He still says, “Come to me.” He is gentle toward all who come in repentance and faith. As we behold His gentleness, we become gentle. We grow less concerned with our reputation and more with serving others. We begin to lose our desire for recognition because our identity is secure in God’s love. We begin to lose our desire to insist on our rights because we belong to the One who laid aside His rights to redeem us.

This contrasts sharply with the spirit of the world. It celebrates self-promotion, influence, and recognition. It urges us to climb higher and make our name known. Jesus calls us to another way: “The greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matt. 23:11). In God’s kingdom, greatness is measured by humility. Leadership is serving, not being served. True strength is not domination but self-giving love. This is our Lord’s pattern. Though equal with the Father, He humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient to death—even death on a cross (Phil. 2:5–8). The King of glory washed feet before stretching out His hands on the cross. If He took the lowest place, how can we seek the highest?

Perhaps the Lord has given you influence or responsibility. Accept it with a desire to lean hard and utterly depend on the Lord and His might rather than your own resources, and hold it with humility. Authority is given not to exalt ourselves but to serve others. Or perhaps He has called you to quiet, unseen labour. Our Father delights in what the world overlooks, and much of His work is done through those content to be known by Him rather than admired by others. Whether raised up or kept hidden, our calling is the same: to be faithful servants. Positions change. Recognition comes and goes. But the Christian’s joy is not in being important; it is in belonging to Christ and becoming like Him. May the Holy Spirit produce in us the fruit of gentleness, so others may glimpse the heart of our gentle and lowly Saviour. Having been saved by Him and in becoming more like Him through the Spirits work in our lives, we discover that true greatness is found not in exalting ourselves, but in joyfully taking the place of a servant for the glory of God.

Ministry Updates: Praise Points

Prayer for God’s Continued Provision & New way of giving from the USA!

We ask that you would continue to make the financial needs of the ministry a matter of earnest prayer. We have half a months support left to meet students food, electricity and staff support and all our ministry expenses. For close to four months we have received just under 10% of the support that we need to meet operational cost. However, throughout this year the Lord has faithfully sustained us in remarkable ways and we continue to look to Him alone to provide everything necessary for the work He has entrusted to us. Humanly speaking, we remain in a very difficult financial season, yet we know that the God who has sustained this ministry for almost sixty years has not changed. He remains faithful. Although this year has brought much shaking, our hope rests in the One who Himself can never be shaken. We therefore ask that you would please keep this as an urgent matter of prayer, that the Lord would continue to provide for every area of the ministry so that the work of proclaiming Christ, training gospel workers, planting churches, caring for the needy, and equipping His people might continue unhindered throughout the South Pacific.

The attached CMC Donor Forms are for one-time use only.  This helps us get your donor’s information into our computer correctly.

After your donor sends in their first gift, we will send them a receipt and a self-addressed envelope.  The receipt is two-part, and they should tear off the bottom portion and send it back with any future donation.  The top portion is their tax-deductible receipt.  If they are giving online through CMC “Click & Give” or through their bank, then they will not need to send in the bottom portion of their receipt.  Should they want an annual receipt, they must call us or send a note with their last gift of the year to let us know.

The IRS law does not allow individuals to designate funds – only a 501 (c) 3 like CMC may do so.  This is another good reason to use the form for the first gift only.  After the first gift, we will have their account set up and we will know that they support you.  Checks should be made payable to Central Missionary Clearinghouse or C.M.C.

2026 Pastors and Gospel Workers Conference

We were greatly blessed to hold our 2026 Pastors and Gospel Workers Conference, where the Lord graciously provided three faithful international speakers: Dr. Keith Stevenson, Mr. Ashley Saunders, and Dr. T. V. Thomas, alongside Dr. Narayan Nair. This year’s theme focused on Biblical Leadership as revealed throughout the Old Testament. Dr. Nair opened the conference before each of our guest speakers taught four to five sessions over the course of the week. It was a wonderful time of rich biblical teaching, warm fellowship, and mutual encouragement as pastors, evangelists, and gospel workers gathered together around the Word of God. We continue to believe that every area of the Christian life and ministry must be governed by Scripture. Leadership within the church is no exception. We do not ultimately need better methods, management strategies, or business models—we need men and women whose thinking, character, and ministry have been shaped by the Word of God. As the Apostle Paul reminds us, we are to “take every thought captive to obey Christ,” and this conference sought to do exactly that by allowing the Scriptures to define what faithful leadership looks like.

As many of you have been praying, this was also the first time in almost three decades that the conference was held back in the western division of Fiji, in Lautoka. For many years we had faced increasing difficulty in finding a suitable venue, yet the Lord graciously opened the doors of the Lautoka Wesley Methodist Church, whose chapel seats approximately 250 people. We were humbled that each day attendance exceeded the building’s capacity. At the conclusion of the conference, nearly 200 pastors and gospel workers qualified to receive a Certificate of Participation, along with a complimentary theological mini-library. We are deeply thankful to the Lord for providing these resources. Many who attended have little or no access to sound theological books, and our prayer is that these resources will continue strengthening local churches long after the conference has concluded. Once again, we were reminded that this is only possible because of the goodness of God and the generosity of His people.

Dr. and Mrs. Nair’s 66th Wedding Anniversary

On 25th June, Dr. and Mrs. Narayan Nair celebrated 66 years of marriage. We thank the Lord for His remarkable faithfulness throughout these many decades. Christian marriage is meant to be a picture of the greatest love story ever told—a love that existed in the heart of God before the foundation of the world and was displayed most fully upon an old rugged cross, where the glorious King of kings gave Himself for His bride, the Church, bearing the penalty for her unfaithfulness and spiritual adultery.

The cross of Christ is the greatest declaration of divine love ever known. It is God’s rescue of a wayward bride—to wash her clean, clothe her in His righteousness, and bring her home with loud singing, removing every accusation and wiping away every tear. How great indeed is His faithfulness!

We are not our own, for we have been bought with a price. Our lives now belong to Him, that we might proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light. Day by day, our prayer is that we would descend ever deeper into the infinite ocean of His love, being transformed into His likeness and conformed more and more to His beauty.

Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. To Him who does all things well belongs all glory. Though we pass through many trials and many joys, He remains forever faithful. May the lives He has entrusted to us—our marriages, our families, our vocations, and our ministries—never terminate upon themselves, but always point beyond us to Christ, our faithful Bridegroom, our glorious Redeemer, and our everlasting King.

Evangelism and Diaspora Missions Seminars

During the same week, Dr. T. V. Thomas also conducted a series of seminars at the Bible College each morning from Monday through Thursday on the subjects of Evangelism, Missions, and Diaspora Missions. These sessions were held in preparation for the upcoming Global Diaspora Network Conference, which will take place in Nadi later this year. Dr. Thomas reminded us of the remarkable opportunities God is creating through global migration. As populations continue moving across national boundaries, there are now many ethnic groups with larger populations living outside their countries of origin than within them. Rather than viewing this simply as a sociological phenomenon, we are called to recognise it as one of God’s providential means of bringing the nations to our doorstep. His challenge was that the Church must not overlook this strategic mission field but faithfully proclaim Christ to people on the move. Please continue praying for the preparations for the October conference and that these discussions would not merely remain academic, but would lead to practical gospel ministry among the unreached peoples whom the Lord is bringing into our communities.

Basketball and Bible Fun Day

We were delighted to welcome P. K. Thomas and his family as they partnered with us to conduct a Basketball and Bible Fun Day at the Gospel Retreat Centre on Johnson Road. Nearly seventy children between the ages of seven and fourteen joined us for a wonderful day filled with games, basketball coaching, friendship, and, most importantly, the opening of God’s Word. Basketball is not a particularly common sport in Fiji, so the children thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills while also hearing the good news of Jesus Christ. Our prayer continues to be that the seed of the gospel planted that day would bear lasting fruit in the lives of these young people.

The Lord also provided us with one of those delightful providences that reminds us He is directing even the smallest details. Several months earlier I had asked Dr. T. V. Thomas whether he happened to know the Thomas family who were coming to lead the Basketball and Bible ministry. He smiled and explained that “Thomas” is such a common surname that he was almost certain they were unrelated. Imagine everyone’s surprise when they finally met here in Fiji and discovered that P. K. Thomas is in fact Dr. Thomas’s own nephew! One family had travelled from Canada, the other from Texas, and after many years apart they were unexpectedly reunited while serving together in Fiji through the same Christian ministry. It was a wonderful reminder that our God delights in orchestrating events in ways that only He could.

Young Men’s Fellowship and Prayer Breakfast

During the month we also held our regular Young Men’s Fellowship together with our Men’s Prayer Breakfast. These gatherings continue to be a great encouragement as we seek to build friendships centred upon Christ and His Word while discipling the next generation of Christian men. We often remind these young men that they are not merely “the church of tomorrow”—they are part of Christ’s Church today. Our desire is that they would grow to become men who fear God, love His Word, delight in prayer, and faithfully serve His people. We long to see them become diligent students of Scripture, firmly grounded in the gospel, and equipped to proclaim Christ to a generation that desperately needs to hear that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Please continue to pray that the Lord would use these relationships to raise up faithful servants for many years to come.

Beginning the Second Semester

Our Bible College and Ambassadors Institute of Vocational Training have now commenced Orientation Week and the beginning of the second semester. Please pray for all of our students as they settle back into study after their semester break. One exciting development this semester is that our vocational students will be spending more time alongside our Bible College students. Our hope is that meaningful friendships will develop, allowing opportunities for encouragement, discipleship, and conversations about the Lord Jesus. We are also thankful that Pastor Rusi Tugaga has joined us this semester to help teach our discipleship course for the vocational students. Please pray that the Lord would use these classes to deepen their understanding of the gospel and strengthen their walk with Christ.

A Visit from Dr. Chandra and Family

It was also a great joy to welcome Dr. Chandra and his family, long-time friends of the ministry, back to the College campus. They spent precious time with Dr. and Mrs. Nair, recalling many memories from the late 1970s and early 1980s when the Lord first knit their hearts together in gospel ministry. Over many decades the Lord has used the Chandra family in wonderful ways throughout Fiji and the South Pacific, and we remain deeply thankful for faithful friends like them who have stood beside this ministry through prayer, encouragement, and practical support. Humanly speaking, we could never have accomplished what the Lord has entrusted to us without people whom God has raised up to partner with us in so many different ways.

Thank you for praying with us throughout this process. We know many of you have faithfully brought this matter before the Lord.

A Visit from Mr. William Turnbull

From 16th–24th June, we were privileged to welcome Mr. William Turnbull to Fiji. Although this was his fifth visit to our country, it was his first since Fiji’s first coup in 1987. Last year the Lord burdened William’s heart to reconnect with the ministry, and we are thankful that he responded to that leading. During his visit he was able to spend time seeing the various arms of AFC(SP), with particular attention given to the Gospel Retreat Centre. Mr. Turnbull has spent the last 42 years in Christian Camp ministry so we are thankful to the Lord that He allowed Mr Turnball to visit  as many of you know, we have been praying for someone whom the Lord would prepare to come alongside us in developing this important ministry. We believe the Retreat Centre has enormous potential for gospel outreach. It provides a unique environment where young people and families from many different backgrounds can build meaningful relationships while hearing the good news of Jesus Christ in a setting that demonstrates genuine Christian love and hospitality. Christian camps have played a significant role in the history of our own family—both of my grandparents came to know the Lord through camp ministry—and so we continue praying that God would raise up the right people, at the right time, to help us further develop this ministry for His glory.

Barnabas Aid Outreach 2026

Thank you for praying for the planning, logistics, and preparation for this year’s Barnabas Aid outreach. We are thankful to the Lord that everything came together well, allowing us to distribute food and supplies across several locations in Fiji, including Rakiraki, Drasa, Ba, Nadi, Gulitu, Seaside, Lovu, and Labasa.

Once again, the need throughout Fiji continues to be very great. Through the kindness of the Lord and the generosity of His people, we received 13.5 tonnes of dry food, which has enabled us to serve many families who are facing genuine hardship.

The rising cost of living continues to place enormous pressure upon many households. Fuel prices in Fiji have now risen to approximately FJD $18.73 per gallon, and the increasing costs of transport, food, and other necessities continue to affect families throughout the country. We are deeply thankful that the Lord continues to provide through His people so that we are able to care for those who are suffering—especially those within the household of faith—while also extending the love of Christ to those who do not yet know Him.

Each food parcel provides another opportunity to sit with families, listen to their stories, pray with them, and share the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray that these practical gifts would point people beyond the food itself to the Bread of Life, and that many would come to know the grace and mercy of God through the gospel.

Along with the food shipment, we also received a significant amount of medical equipment. We are especially thankful to the Lawson family for their generous donation, which Barnabas Aid was able to ship to Fiji. Among the equipment were lifting devices, bathing chairs, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids that have been an enormous blessing to Dr. Poasi Nui’s family as they continue caring for his daughter, Helen.

Please continue to pray for Helen. Pray that the Lord would be merciful to her, strengthen her each day, and sustain the entire family as they lovingly care for her. We also give thanks to God for His faithful provision through His people, reminding us once again that He knows our needs before we ask Him.

Rakiraki Bible Church Plant

Please continue to pray for the Bible church plant in Rakiraki. For many years this local fellowship has met together in a family home for worship, prayer, and the teaching of God’s Word. We thank the Lord that He has continued to add to the church, bringing new individuals and families into the fellowship. As the congregation continues to grow, the need for a larger and more permanent place of worship has become increasingly evident. 

We are currently seeking to purchase a parcel of land that would provide the church with a permanent home. One of the great blessings of this property is that it is freehold land, meaning that it would belong to us rather than being held under a 49 or 99 year lease. This would provide long-term stability for the congregation and allow future generations to continue gathering there without the uncertainty that often comes with leased land in Fiji.

We are greatly encouraged that the Lord has already provided approximately half of the funds needed to purchase the property. Once again, we have been reminded that the Lord faithfully provides for His work in His own time and through His own people.

We continue to look to Him for the remainder of the funds. At present, approximately USD $50,000 (FJD $100,000) is still required to complete the purchase.

Would you please pray with us that, if it is the Lord’s will, He would provide this remaining amount? More than anything, we desire that Christ would continue to build His church in Rakiraki, that His Word would be faithfully proclaimed, and that this place would become a lighthouse for the gospel for many years to come.

As the Lord Jesus Himself said, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” We rest in that promise as we commit this need into His hands.

Prayer Points for the next month

Glasshouse Christian School Ministry Team

Please pray for the team from Glasshouse Christian School in Queensland, Australia, who will be ministering alongside us from 7–22 July. Throughout their time here they will be involved in a wide variety of ministries, including youth programs, children’s clubs, school devotions, Bible studies, painting projects, and food parcel distributions. We are thankful that the Lord has continued to bring this team back to Fiji over many years, and we praise Him for their willingness to use their gifts in serving His people. Please pray that the Lord would strengthen and enable every member of the team throughout their visit, granting them wisdom, unity, good health, and opportunities to clearly proclaim the gospel. Above all, pray that every child, young person, and family they minister to would be pointed beyond themselves to the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation that is found in Him alone. Please also pray for our AFC(SP) team as we labour together with our friends from Glasshouse, that the Lord would knit our hearts together in joyful partnership for the advancement of His kingdom.

Christian Helps Optical Mission

Please also uphold in prayer our upcoming Christian Helps Optical Mission, which will take place from 25 July to 2 August. During this outreach we will once again travel to five different locations throughout western Fiji to provide free eye screening, eye examinations, and prescription glasses to many people who would otherwise have little or no access to this much-needed medical care. While we are thankful to be able to demonstrate the love of Christ in a practical way, our greatest desire is that every patient would hear the good news of the gospel. Please pray for the many gospel conversations that will take place throughout the clinics, that the Lord would prepare hearts to receive His Word, and that many would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ, who came into the world to save sinners and reconcile us to the Father through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and glorious resurrection. Please also pray for the entire optical team as they serve, that the Lord would sustain them physically, spiritually, and emotionally throughout what will be a demanding week of ministry.

Master of Arts in Biblical Studies

Please continue to pray for our upcoming Master of Arts in Biblical Studies intensive, which will run from Monday 4 August to Friday 15 August. This program exists to equip those who are already serving in gospel ministry with a deeper understanding of the Scriptures and to strengthen them for faithful service in Christ’s Church. We are thankful that the Lord continues to bring men and women who have a hunger to know Him more deeply through His Word. Please pray for Dr. Arthur Adams, Dean of the Master’s Program, as he teaches Biblical Exposition, and for Mr. Barry Frew, who will be lecturing on Biblical Leadership. Please also pray for both our returning students and those who will be joining the program for the first time. Our prayer is not simply that they would increase in knowledge, but that they would grow in wisdom, humility, holiness, and love for Christ, becoming ever more faithful servants of His gospel.

Thank you once again for your faithful prayers, encouragement, and partnership in the gospel. We are grateful to the Lord for each of you.
